Outfit of the Day: I Look Like a Student

Outfit of the Day 8/9/12: Oops, I Look Like a Student

I keep trying to dress like a grown up and FAILING MISERABLY. I felt so mature when I got to work, and one of my students said “aw, Mrs. T, you look like a Catholic schoolgirl!” SEE? EPIC FAILURE.

But I really like this outfit, so oh well. Besides, between my diminutive stature and my round hamster cheeks, I will perpetually look like a fifteen-year-old. I might as well just give up trying to look older and just try to look nice.

These boots are probably my favorite things I’ve found on eBay- brand new Blowfish Aerins, in my size, for only $9.90 and free shipping. NO REGRETS, JUST AWESOME BOOTS. They’re my first pair of Blowfishes, and I adore them. I might be a lifelong convert.

I wore this to teach the last day of my introductory crash course in theatre history- musical theatre! I opened with an activity where they had to decide by the written one-sentence synopsis if it was a musical or not. They were all musicals! Their reaction to The Producers was especially hilarious. “There’s a musical about Hitler?!”

Yes, my children. Yes, indeed.

I also used the Staniac lip and cheek stain from my July Birchbox. Blush always makes me uneasy- 22 years in theater has conditioned me to apply way too much. I think this worked, though! I had just enough of a rosy flush, and it was pretty easy to apply, albeit a little messy. Any more, though, and I would have looked like an escapee china doll.

Also, I really wish I had been told to fix my cardigan. I have a bad case of awkward boob.

Outfit of the Day: Wherein I Am Lazy

8/8/12 Outfit: I am Lazy

I started off this school year thinking I was going to dress myself like a grown up. I was so excited! My chance to be an adult! New grown up clothes and heels and fancy makeup!

What do I wear after a week of school? A three-year-old dress and hot pink flats. Oh, well. I didn’t really feel like trying hard to day. I at least put my hair up in a fancy bun in an attempt to look older. I don’t think it worked. Bubblegum pink isn’t exactly a grown-up color. And wearing flats when you’re 4’11 3/4″ only makes you look shorter.

But oh well!

Hearts and Rainbows

8/7/12 Outfit: Hearts and Rainbows

I bought this dress a year ago when I first started working at my school! Today I wore it to teach about Shakespeare. Probably too much levity for the great Bard, but maybe he’d appreciate the fact that I accidentally matched the heart on my belt with the hearts on my sunglasses.

Or maybe not. He would probably declare me a brass-as-buttons wench for showing my bare gams. Or something like that.

Also, my hair is a hot mess. My bangs need trimmed, the length needs layers, and I really hate how the color turned out. It’s Garnier Nutrisse Pomegranate (True Red). It turned out more like…maroon on me. It’s been a week and the color has settled a bit, but it’s still just…way too…I don’t know.

I just want glorious copper locks. What dye will give me glorious copper locks?

The Beetlejuice Dress

8/6/12 Outfit: The Beetlejuice Dress

My sister saw this outfit and immediately christened it the Beetlejuice dress. She’s insisting that I dress it up for Halloween. The jury’s still out on that- I kind of have my heart set on being Merida from Brave this year.

I tried this dress on in Forever 21, waffled about it, put it back, and came back a few weeks later to get it. Lo and behold, it was sold out. And then I found it again on eBay, new with tags, for about half price! I was on that.

I wore this outfit to teach my first official theatre arts class- we’re doing a crash course in theatre history this week. I felt so important and grown up in my makeup and fancy shoes…and was immediately mistaken for a high schooler.

Such is my life.
