Things I Love Thursday

  • Glee comes back on tonight! I’m so exited! The fourth season is probably going to be just as terrible as seasons 2 and 3…but as long as Chris Colfer is on, I’ll watch it.
  • I finally found a pair of knee-high brown boots that fit over my massive cheerleader calves! It’s only taken two years to find them (and in my price range). Now, for it to get cold enough…
  • Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is coming up! I can’t go, but hopefully my sister and I can recreate some of the magic at home.
  • Swagbucks! It’s like Neopets for grown-ups, without the pet nagging at you to feed it and junk.
  • Jim and Nicks is officially my new favorite restaurant. It’s an amazing local barbecue place that makes everything fresh there. They don’t even have a freezer. I went there with my parents on Saturday night, and it was amazing. Especially the coconut cream pie. OMG PIE.
  • Having my own bubble to work in at school. I have the library all to myself, and a big amazing desk and a big Mac desktop, and no one ever bothers me, and because I’m only a part-time teacher with an elective, I’m not obligated to do lunch duty or traffic duty or anything like that. I love it.!

Tuesday’s Ten: Currently

(Shamelessly stolen from my friend Lora’s blog. Although…she does them on Thursdays, so maybe it’s just plagiarism? Well, they do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…)

Currently Listening To: The Civil Wars, Florence+the Machine, the Hunger Games: Music from District 12 and Beyond album

Currently Reading: I’ve had Chris Colfer’s book on my Kindle since it came out in July, but I haven’t had any time to read it! I really want to sit down and read it all the way through in one fell swoop. But mostly…I haven’t read much lately. Sad.

Currently Looking Forward To: fall break (a whole week off! October, come faster!), the new season of Glee (it’s awful but I just can’t quit it…), the weather to cool off a bit so I can break out my tights and leggings, my husband being able to find a car

Currently Craving: more of my friend Rachel’s amazing lemon poppyseed scones! Luckily, she gave me a recipe, so all I have to do is buckle down and make them.

Currently Thankful For: my sweet students,  a car that runs beautifully, happy kitten snuggles

Currently Discovering: how much I enjoy painting my nails! Such a little thing, but it makes me so happy.

Currently Organizing: EVERYTHING. Things get very cluttered very fast when two people and a cat live in one small room.

Currently Watching: They put the X-Files on Netflix Instant, so I’ve been having a jolly time with that. I’m almost done with the first season, and so far my favorite part is how deliciously ’90s everything is!

Currently Wearing: dresses! All the dresses! And soon it will be chilly enough to wear to wear boots and leggings with my dresses!

Currently Wishing: a car for P, a house for both of us, and more room for Hiccup to run around in.

Tuesday’s Ten: Ten Things I’m Thinking

#1: My new Fluevogs make me look like a cartoon character.

#2: I’ve started a second medication on top of the previous one for my disorder. Wondering what side effects I’m going to have. Apparently rash=death.

#3: Still trying to figure out why medication #1 has turned off my fear receptors. I’ve been watching scary movies out the ying-yang. It. Pet Sematery. Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Creepshow 2. Amityville Horror 2. The Woman in Black. And nothin’. I used to have to close my eyes for the trailer for the Eddie Murphy Haunted Mansion movie trailer.

#4: Really disappointed that the Nicole by OPI Rainbow in the Sky-lie nail polish was ugly as sin.

#5: I really want to go to Disney World for the opening of New Fantasyland.

#6: Speaking of Disney, I need to get started on my Merida costume for Halloween. I already have the hair and the tiara! I need to get the official Disney Store shoes.

#7: Modcloth’s biannual 70% off sale started yesterday. I ordered three pairs of leggings, two dresses, and a pair of shoes. I hope they’re awesome.

#8: I need buy graph paper, a sketchbook, and colored pencils before school. CAITLIN. DON’T FORGET TO BUY THINGS.

#9: My cat answered me this morning. I called his name and he went “Hmmmm?” and looked at me over his shoulder. I swear he’s secretly a human trapped in a kitten’s body.

#10: Okay, yeah, yep, too hot to have my hair down. PONYTAIL IT IS, YO.

Hiccup Haddock Horrendous IV

My kitten is the cutest kitten.

I’ve never had a pet. Except for the ant farm I accidentally slaughtered when I was in kindergarten, but that’s another story. P and I talked a while about getting a pet, but we didn’t really have any plans.

And then a coworker of mine needed to give a kitten a home, and we volunteered.

Okay, well…let’s rewind a little bit. I work at a bridal shop, right? Well, one of the girls in the tux department got two baby kittens for her son for Easter. Within a few weeks, she realized that two kittens were a huge pain and she didn’t want them. Oh, and her son was five months old. So she brought the kittens in a box to work, dumped them in the break room, and said “whoever wants them can have them.” Nice, hm?

Well, the calico girl kitten got adopted by another tux girl, but the little black boy kitten- Fitzgerald- went home with one of the bridal consultants. Then she realized that her puppy didn’t exactly get along with Fitzgerald (who by now had been renamed Oscar)- she had to leave the kitten locked in the bathroom all day to keep the puppy away from him. So she asked me if P and I wanted to take the kitten.

Did we ever!

She brought the fuzzy little darling over and we’ve both been in love with him ever since. P picked the name- we named him Hiccup after the hero of How To Train Your Dragon, which is ironic because he looks and acts more like Toothless. He’s a little over a year old now, and he’s our sweet darling baby bugaboo.

Except when he pees on everything I love. But that’s another story.

But here, have another picture of our baby cuddling in his blankie when he was only about seven weeks old.

dfadfksdjf that dress is adorable! you’re adorable! I know you’veprobably answered this a hundred times but how tall are you? I’m 5’0”and it’s so hard to make dresses look good but you really pull thatoff :)

ADLSKFJKLD LET ME CUDDLE YOU.

I am precisely 4’ 11 3/4” tall, but I usually say 5’ just for simplicity’s sake.

And I LOVE dresses. I don’t know what it is, but with my height and my body type I just feel more comfortable in a dress. Add a pair of leggings and some boots or ballet flats, and that’s basically my sartorial life. In 2010, I only wore pants twice. I wear them more often now because they’re often more practical at work, but when I’m the American J.K. Rowling I’m going to have a wardrobe full of Modcloth and Anthropologie and Betsey Johnson dresses and then WEAR THE SHIT OUT OF THEM.

Chris Colfer was in my dream the other night.

He was holding a bowl of socks. We waved at each other.

It was only slightly less weird than my previous dream, where they filmed a movie starring an enormous octopus a la Free Willy and they had him on display at the Oscars (I remember Kermit the Frog came and looked at him) and then in the middle of the awards an activist broke in and she freed the giant octopus.

And I remember standing there thinking “but I’m afraid of cephalopods.”

Suddenly…cephalopods.
