If you can find it, it is worth checking out the Les Miserables 25th anniversary concert live at the O2 arena! What is your favourite Les Mis song?Mine are Lovely Ladies and Master of the House.

Ahhhh! I have the 10th anniversary DVD, but I haven’t seen the 25th.

My favorite song is “On My Own,” for sentimental reasons (short version: it’s the moment that 13-year-old me decided to study theatre), but I really adore “Confrontation,” “Do You Hear the People Sing?” and Cosette’s opening solo in “In My Life.” And also the beginning of “At the End of the Day;” it’s so driving and passionate.

The only song that I know of in Matilda is ‘Miracle’ and it goes on for like, ten minutes. From what I’ve heard about it in the West End,it’s meant to be really good.

IT IS IT IS IT ISSSSS.

My three favorite songs are “Naughty,” “When I Grow Up,” and “Quiet.” But I also love the Bruce song and the Telly song.

Also, when my kids don’t listen to me, I sing the “MY MUMMY SAYS I’M A MIRACLE” part as loud as I can until they get quiet.

Tuesday’s Ten: Sewing Frenzy!

I have to sew All the Things for Narnia.

Lucky for me, not only has Simplicity come out with a whole slew of patterns that I can use, but JoAnn’s had them on sale for $.99! SCORE.

#1, 2, and 3: Simplicity 1771

I’m making a modified view A dress for Mrs. Beaver- the skirt isn’t nearly as full, and because of the actress’s height, I’m adding a ruffle on the hem. It’s a combination of a brown gingham, red stripe, and a yet-to-be-determined accent color, as well as a yellow and brown daisy trim on the bodice.

I’m also making the cloak for Lucy (and then saving it for myself!)

#4: Simplicity 1737

I’m making this for the White Witch- but in white, obviously. The overlay is going be sheer with silver snowflakes on it, and I think it’s going to look AMAZING!

#5, 6, and 7: New Look 6872

This is my all-time favorite pattern for a gathered skirt. I’m making three- one in navy floral for Susan, one in a gray, black, and yellow print for a member of the Witch’s Army, and one in red gingham for a follower of Aslan.

#8 and 9: Simplicity 2072

Yes, I’m using a slutty Halloween costume pattern. Don’t worry, I’m not dressing my students up like trollops! I’m using the basic dress pattern for the White Stag, although longer and without a bubble hem, and the sailor jacket pattern for Lucy. Lucy seems like the type for a sailor dress, doesn’t she?

#10: Simplicity 1873

And this is the dress that Lucy’s wearing with her sweet little sailor jacket. It’s such a lovely, simple pattern, especially with the full skirt, and when it’s done and she has all the accessories, it’s going to be adorable.

But that’s only part of the sewing list I’ve got! Stay tuned for more…

…and hopefully some progress shots soon!

I Speak Six Languages

I had my audition on Thursday for 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee! It went pretty well- we were allowed to sing 32 bars instead of the customary 16, and the directors seemed pretty happy with my performance of “I Know Things Now” from Into the Woods- they immediately asked me to stick around. We did cold readings, and I got to read for Rona, Marcy, Logainne, and Olive.

And I got a callback email just a few hours later!

Callbacks were yesterday, and of course I had a mega allergy attack and my right eye was all red and swollen and gross, and I had to wear my glasses. Luckily, though, it didn’t affect my voice.

I didn’t know who I was called back for, and they had me sing for Olive first. Oh jeez. Olive is a soprano role (I’m a mezzo) and I got all wobbly and shaky. Then they had me sing for Rona- another soprano, even higher than Olive!

Then I got to sing for Logainne, and that was awesome. And then I got to sing for Marcy, and that was even more awesome!

We mostly did singing, although I did get to read once for Logainne (the bit where she spells “cystitis.”)

And then they called back a handful of people one at a time, and I was one of them! They had me sing all the way through Logainne’s song “Woe is Me.”

And then they sent us home with the dreaded “thank you all for coming out, we’ll let you know soon.”

Gah.

The cast list should be out soon, and I’m not going to lie, I have really high hopes. They only called back six girls, and there’s 4-5 female roles in the show, so there’s a really, really good chance that I have a part.

I’m going to go sit in the corner and rock back and forth until the cast list is posted.
