The Compliments Outfit

9/17/12

I don’t know if I was just around super nice people today or what, but I got a ton of compliments on this outfit! I was pretty excited. It’s not a typical outfit for me- I usually don’t do dresses with narrow skirts- but it was comfy and I felt cute and it was the perfect thing to cheer up a dreary rainy day- even if my belt and boots were different shades of brown. Oh, well. YOLO and whatnot.

I love the combination of navy and gold, and these mustard-y tights went really well with the dress, I thought. Although every time I wear them, my sister mistakes it for my actual skin color. She insists it’s because of the Great Legwarmer Tan of ’09.

I wore this for a long day of subbing for fifth grade, rummaging around my sad little library, teaching voice and diction in theatre arts (we did tongue twisters!), aftercare, and a Monday night church service. But I felt cute the whole time- even though my hair exploded in wild rain-curls and I had to pin it up for Emanate. It was still kind of cute!

Boots, Glorious Boots!

9/14/12
I have been searching for knee-high brown boots for forever! Like…two or three years! And now I have them!! Hurray!! I just had so much trouble finding boots that would fit over my massive cheerleader calves. These just baaaarely fit, so no thick tights for these, I think, but I love them so much.

This outfit is probably just a little too much on the autumnish side, but I don’t care! YOLO! And…so on and so forth. I’ve been going nuts on Pinterest with pumpkin-related things…although I realized I’ve never actually had a pumpkin spice latte. What’s up with that?

I wore this for the last day of nonverbal improv week, and rehearsal with my kiddos. This was my first day working with the kids playing the bad guys, and it was so much fun. They’re just awesome.

I also tried the waterfall braid in my hair again. The first time was an epic fail, but I think this one went better. Although I can’t get a good look at the back of my head, so I don’t know if it actually worked.

But yeah. This was a pretty comfy outfit, even though it kind of makes me look like I stuffed cantaloupes down my dress.

Grumpy Mime

9/12/12

If I looked pissed off in this picture, it’s because I was. I couldn’t find the production binder for the show I’m directing, even after tearing up the house for fifteen minutes before I left for work. Thankfully, I found it in my car right after this photo was taken. And then I felt dumb.

This dress makes me feel like a nautically inclined mime. It’s not the usual print I gravitate towards- I tend to avoid horizontal stripes like the plague- but this dress is so comfy and constructed just right. I added the cardigan since it’s getting a little nippyish in the mornings, although I had to take it off when I started reorganizing the library shelves because wow, my classroom got super hot. Also, it looks like I’m barefoot, bt I’m not. I’m wearing gold flats.

From the children’s department.

Oh, well.

I wore this for charades day! I had my students play charades for nonverbal improv, and it was awesome. I picked all movie and book characters, and it worked out that the girls kept getting the superheroes and the boys kept getting princesses. It was hilarious.

The best way I can describe this outfit: I look like the librarian from The Mummy. Or Indiana Jones’ kid sister.

In either case, I am the most awkward picture taker ever. I need to branch out with some new poses. I’m going to make this my goal. I’m going to do all the cliche fashion blogger poses just so I can get myself to stop posing with my hands on my hips.

Also, somehow I managed to stand in the only shaded part of the porch. Not only am I bad at taking pictures, I’m really good at being bad at taking pictures. I got mad skillz, yo.

This blouse isn’t my usual style- it’s sheer and kind of frou-frou-y and stuff- but I really like it. It has kind of a ’70s vibe, which isn’t really me, so I played around with it and ended up in this historical-adventurer sort of outfit. And I really liked it.

Even though the socks turned my feet violently red. Like, seriously. It was like I had stepped in tomatoes.

I wore this for the first day of Narnia rehearsals with my students! This is my first full-length play that I’ve directed all on my lonesome, but I’ve got a fantastic cast and crew of kids who are really dying to work hard and learn a lot. Today I worked just with the kids playing the Pevensies, and I’m so excited so far. this is going to be a fun show, I just know it.

I also started nonverbal improv with my theatre arts students. Today was all about communicating and reacting without saying anything, so we played two games- the floor is lava, and air traffic controller. For the first one, I picked two students to be the “movers”- they were immune to the lava and could move furniture around to help their classmates across (although on the second go-round, I told them they weren’t allowed to use any of the metal chairs, making them have to get creative). For air traffic controller, I blindfolded one student (the “airplane”) and assigned them a student to guide them (the “air traffic controller”). The other students rearranged the furniture and added themselves as obstacles, and the controller had to direct the airplane across the room. It was so much fun! Especially when I put a rule in place to keep them from talking. Each student has a labeled bag of M&Ms, and every time they talk, I get to eat an M&M. At the end of the week, when we’re done with nonverbal improv, they get whatever candy is left. It’s a win-win situation! They’re quiet, and I get chocolate!

And also, my hair did not last like that for very long. Before my theatre arts class even started I had braided it all back. Too hot for fluffy long hair!

Bright Colors!

9/7/12

I usually don’t wear a wide variety of colors- I usually stick to browns, blues, reds, and yellows- but Iately I’ve been trying to branch out. This purple knit dress is super comfy, but shows off way too much boob when I wear it alone! So in the summer I’ll wear it on its own, but for school it’ll have to be a jumper, or at least have to be worn with a very concealing cardigan.

These are pretty much my favorite flats. They get a combination of praise and funny looks every time I wear them out, but still. I love them, and I’ve been trying to find outfits that match them. Not always successful, but you know.

I wanted to do something cuter with my hair, but I ended up just going for a wavy ponytail. And I tried something new with it. I was disheartened by how thin and flat it looked around the elastic, so I teased it. AND VOILA. SO much better. Maybe that’s why I look so sassy in this picture.

I wore this for another day without my high school students, but I ended up subbing for the 8th grade Bible class in the morning. I have to say that few things make me happier than getting ready to sub for a class and watching the students cheer and hug me when they realize I’m their sub for the day.

I chose to wear purple mostly because it was Wear Purple Day. I’m not really one for big political statements, but I do believe that nobody should be bullied, especially to the point of taking their own life, and most especially not because of their sexual orientation. My work environment is not exactly friendly to such ideals, but I wore purple anyway, as a quiet stand of support. And least one student realized it, and told me very emphatically that she was glad I was wearing it. So if I can be a support for my students, that’s all that matters.

The Tiniest Teacher in All the Land

8/30

If I told you that when parents assume I’m their child’s classmate instead of their teacher, would you be surprised? Probably not.

I ought to dress like a grownup, but screw it all. No amount of high heels or makeup or fancy updos is going to make me look like a convincing adult. I might as well just wear what I like and be done with it.

These leggings are actually pajamas, but they’re such a fun teal color that I can’t just wear them as jammies. Also, I will never be a good adult.

This dress is probably the most practical choice ever- it’s shortish, I really should have worn a cami under it, and it makes me look like a baby doll. But I wanted to be comfortable! I had library, theatre arts class, and then callbacks- I needed to be comfy. Baby doll dress and pajama leggings it was.

I wore my Narnian crest necklace since today we had callbacks for the school production of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I had forty students audition and only fifteen speaking roles, so this is going to be hard.

This pose was actually an accident. I glanced down and thought it turned out rather cute! Maybe I’ll start trying to do all them fancy fashion blogger poses.

Monster Shoes and a Flowery Dress

8/28

This is probably not the most attractive picture of me ever taken. Usually I take my pictures in the morning on the way out the door, when I haven’t sweated through a forty minute drive and my makeup is still pretty and my clothes aren’t wrinkled. But this…this was taken after 40 minutes to work, 2 hours in the library, an hour of theatre arts (which included participating in a lip-synch competition), 2 hours of auditions (I’m directing the fall production), and then 40 minutes home.
So yeah. Wrinkled, disheveled, demakeup’d…but it could be worse, right? It at least explains why I have such a pained expression.
This is one of my all-time favorite dresses. It’s just a $15 Target dress, but it’s comfy and flattering and I don’t have too many big print things, so…yeah! I love it.
The shoes are new (to me) and this picture really doesn’t do them justice. They seriously make me look like a cartoon character with big feet and bitty legs. They’re secondhand Fluevogs that I got for a steal on eBay, and they’re amazing. I’m really kicking myself for passing up the Mini Lover boots that I nearly bought. Ah, well. Maybe a pair will turn up at some point. In my price range.
Or not.

Also, since I’m directing The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, I wore my Narnia charm bracelet. I felt it was appropriate.

For callbacks on Thursday I’ll wear my Narnia necklace.

No, I’m not obsessed…

This outfit is based on this Polyvore set: confettipaperdolls.wordpress.com/2012/08/24/red-heart-s…

I bought this sweater because I thought it was cute. And then, lo and behold, it was used on an episode of Glee! I promptly made a Polyvore set to assemble an outfit.

It took a while to find just the right items, and even then, I tweaked it a little. I didn’t buy a polo shirt (because really, who actually likes polo shirts?) and I opted for a navy headband instead of a red bow, but I thought it turned out pretty well!

It’s probably too short for a teacher. But do you know what? That’s okay. I’m covered. And I look pretty cute. And I look teacherish from the waist up at least, right?

Yeah, we’re gonna go with that.

This is Me Being Sassy

8/23
I was in a hurry and my sister was taking my picture, so here, enjoy some of my big sister sass.

I hate my hair like this. I have a weird aversion to having my hair just straight and down, so I end up sticking in side clips. And I look like a dork! I need to come up with a better option. I used to wear headbands all the time, but they tend to make me look about fourteen.

This was my Easter dress from 2011, and it’s a miracle that the cheap boning hasn’t busted out of the top yet. I would just take it out, but I don’t want to mess with it unless I have to. But really, the boning in the princess seams curves in such a weird way that it makes my already impressive rack look at least a cup size bigger. DO NOT NEED.

I went with the sensible flat sandals today for two reasons- one, because I learned the hard way that one should not wear heels whilst teaching a class about movement. And two, because I wanted to show off my nail polish. I have an audition tonight, so I took off the dark raspberry nail polish on my fingers (OPI Katy Perry The One That Got Away) and replaced it with a different Katy Perry nail polish, Teenage Dream. But on my toes I layered the pink glitter over the raspberry, and gah it looks pretty!

I need to do a post about my new love of nail polish- of OPI polishes, specifically. They’re amazing.

Also, my sandals fasten with velcro. They’re size 4 1/2 in children’s. And they have iCarly on them.

Awkward Ballerina

8/22/12

Really, that’s the best description I have for this. Between the bun, the black top, and blush pink circle skirt, I feel like a ballerina. But awkward.

I love these shoes, but I discovered the hard way that they’re not conducive to excessive movement. I have to take very small steps, since there’s no strap to keep them on, and that makes it difficult to teach a lesson to my theatre arts students on movement! I was ten minutes into the lesson before I kicked them off. A glamorous grown up I am not.

This is actually the first time I’ve worn this skirt, mostly because I don’t know what to pair it with. It came in blush, black, and navy, and I bought the blush on a whim because I own too much black and navy. But now I don’t know how to style it! Any thoughts?

Also, my bun was all over the place. Lately I’ve been using that little mesh donut-y thing (let’s be honest, the sock bun with the actual sock is too advanced for my minimal hair-doing skills), but today I just sort of…slapped it up with bobby pins. And I didn’t realize until I got home that a big ol’ chunk of hair had fallen out in the back. Oh well.

I’ll just tell people I saw it on Pinterest.
