Rachel Berry Called, She Wants Her Sweater Back

10/26/12
Seriously, this looks like an outfit that Rachel Berry wore in the first season of Glee. Slightly ridiculous. At least the boots keep it from looking too sweety-sweet, right? If I really wanted to look like Rachel, I should have added mary janes or something.

The sweater was a serendipitous Goodwill find- an Izod sweater, tags still on, perfect condition. And unlike most sweaters, it doesn’t make my boobs look super awkward massive! My mom used to buy me chunky turtleneck sweaters and shirts every Christmas when I was growing up, in order to cover up my burgeoning cleavage. Yeah, thanks, Mom, that just made my boobs look even bigger and lumpier, especially since she also bought me ill-fitting sports bras that made me sag like a geriatric bingo player! My middle school/early high school photos are tremendously unfortunate, especially when coupled with my unattractive poofy haircut.

I wore this outfit for a long, long, LONG day. I got to work at 8:30 for a meeting about the TACS fine arts competition- I’m coaching a bunch of students to compete in monologues and duet scenes. And then I sewed a butt-ton of costumes. Then I met with two students at lunchtime about Narnia things. Then I sewed. Then my theatre arts kids finished their reader’s theatre presentations (they did a series of David Ives one acts.) Then I had Narnia rehearsal, in which I choreographed the battle sequence. Holy crap are my legs bruised now. Lots of rolling around on the floor and smacking people with fake weaponry. Let me just say that the boots were exchanged for a pair of hot pink Converses pretty quickly.

The white string/red ribbon bracelet is from a student. One of his friends recently committed suicide, and he was asking if people wanted the bracelets- as a memorial, as an anti-bullying symbol, and as a reminder that the wearer is loved, since one of the things his friend had said was that she didn’t feel loved. I’ve been wearing the bracelet daily ever since, and I’ll probably wear it till it falls off. I’ve watched a lot of my sweet kiddos get picked on and torn down, and I’m not okay with it. I’ve tried to make my classroom as welcoming as possible as a safe space, and some of them have really taken to it.

Today I Am a Peppermint

10/23/12

My mother walked by as my husband was taking this picture and said “so on Tuesdays, you’re a peppermint,” and I laughed. Hence my silly face.

This was a comfy outfit, but it was too hot in the morning and not warm enough in the afternoon. And I ended up changing into shorts and sneakers for rehearsal anyways, so…yeah!

Also, today I had the sock bun, but I kept grabbing at it during rehearsal so I took it down. My kids started laughing because I looked exactly like Merida.

I Am So Not Punk Rock

10/22/12

The closest I come to being punk is my collection of Fall Out Boy MP3s, which is definitely too mainstream to count.

Never the less, this is a super comfy outfit- important when you’ve had a headache for a week and have to deal with a bunch of noisy kids! I got a lot of compliments on my crazy leggings and my giant cartoon character shoes, which was awesome!

On the downside, I forgot that I was going to church at night, and while it was 81 degrees during the day, it was going to drop to the low 60s-upper 50s at night. I stopped by Target to run some errands and picked up a Converse One Star jacket for 50% percent off, which is super comfy and will probably live in my library for days when I get surprised by Nashville’s crazy weather!

I Look Like a Fourteen-Year-Old

10/18/12

I really love this skirt, but it makes me look very young. But I wore it anyway! I tried pairing it with a button-up shirt to look more grown-up, but it just doesn’t change the fact that I look like a ninth grader.

And then, for Narnia rehearsal, I changed out of the striped button up and put on my Harry Potter tee, so I looked even younger. Oh, well. I was comfy!

Little Mermaid Hair!

10/15/12

So you can’t see a lot of details of my outfit because the sun is stupid and I am a terrible photographer, but who cares because Ariel hair!

My sister’s best friend is in beauty school, so she came over to cut and color our hair. I hadn’t dyed my hair since August (and it had turned out the wrong color anyway) and it hadn’t been cut since April, so it definitely needed a little love! I am so thrilled with the color, and my students kept exclaiming over how pretty it looks.

I love this dress, but it’s one of the perils of buying thrifted clothing online- it was listed as a large when it’s a small! So I have to leave it unbuttoned. But hey, still, cute, right? Right? Oh well.

Also my knee socks were a dollar at the end-of-winter sales at Claire’s, and they’re sparkly. AWESOME.

It was a great outfit for a long, long day. My friend Meg was in town from Pennsylvania, so we went out for breakfast before I took her to the airport. And then it was my first day back at school after fall break, so my kids did NOT want to do anything and I didn’t really push it. They have a paper due tomorrow for me, and only one of them turned it in! Silly children. And then I had three-hour Narnia rehearsal, where I still had four main actors missing. And then I had Emanate. So long day, but really good!

I Just Feel Lovely

Untitled

I just really loved this outfit today. I felt lovely and feminine and graceful and charming…all things that I never dreamed of feeling just a few months ago. I think this dress is magical. And pairing it with a long-wanted lace top and dainty little T-straps was just sort of the icing on the fancy cake, I suppose.

This was a really, really long day. I wrestled with my library, I taught my theatre arts kiddos (last day before fall break, so no one wanted to do anything!), directed Narnia rehearsal and prepared for tomorrow’s ridiculous Saturday rehearsal, went to see a best friend’s performance (one of her last before she moves back home to Texas!), and then went downtown for drinks at the Flying Saucer with Erin and her beau. So a long day, but I felt adorable all day- and thankfully wore flats!

Starfleet

9/28/12

This dress is so wrinkly. I AM A FAILURE OF A GROWNUP.

But I wore this dress for the second day of the educator’s conference, since it’s high-necked and long enough, and the upper elementary principal pointed out with much delight that it looks like a Starfleet uniform. AND SURE ENOUGH IT DOES. I need to get one of the fancy pins to complete the look.

And again, I really wanted to wear my peep-toe flats before it got too cold to wear them without tights! But these are my beloved Seychelles Pansy flats. I have them in the cream color too, but I’m saving them. Or at least until spring.

Also, I am very pleased with my hair. It pleases me.

Sunshine

9/25/12

I figured I had better wear these shoes while I still could! Tennessee gets so unpredictable about its weather- it might be sunny and warm and 80 degrees today, and freezing cold the next. And these shoes are so stinkin’ cute. I bought them in the Modcloth 70% sale, which is basically my favorite time of the year ever. These shoes were originally $32.99, and I got them for $8.99! Which is lovely and exciting.

This was a weird, laidback sort of week, since the kids are off Thursday and Friday while the teachers are at an educator’s conference, so we’re just taking a few days to play around with accents and character voices. I made them watch clips of my favorite voice actors and it was awesome!

Teal the Cows Come Home

9/25/12

That’s the name of my nail polish, and it’s so cute that I couldn’t resist.

This skirt reminds me of a hot air balloon. And it’s so comfy! And poofy! I love it.

I actually didn’t wear this outfit for very long today. I worked in the library and taught theatre arts (day 2 of voice acting- we talked about accents!), and then I changed into shorts and a tee shirt for rehearsal. P and I were going to move some furniture after work, but that didn’t pan out. I still looked decently cute, though! I think!

So Vain

9/20/12

This outfit makes me so happy for a simple, silly, vain reason- I look so skinny! I’ve been slowly losing weight, and this outfit highlights how much I’ve lost, and it makes me so excited.

I feel very punky in this outfit. Not that I’m really hardcore or a punk, but…it’s a slightly edgier outfit than I usually wear. And by that I mean it’s not pink or fluffy or pastel-y. If that’s a word. I don’t think it is.

I had a fantastic Narnia rehearsal with my kids today! I’m so proud of them. They’re all just adorable and awesome. But I’m looking forward to the weekend like you wouldn’t believe! I need a nap like whoa.
